DEFENDING YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS
We defend the rights of people facing removal from the United States. Removal Proceedings are an administrative hearing with the United States government prosecuting you because they believe you no longer have immigration status, or you have violated the terms of your immigration status which makes you removable from the United States.
The process begins when Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) serves you with a Notice to Appear document. The Notice to Appear explains the immigration charges against you, and tells you that you must appear before the immigration judge at the immigration court closest to your home.
If ICE gives you the NTA document, please contact our office right away.
When you hire Sojourner Law to defend you at the immigration court, our job is to determine if there are any defenses available to you, so that you may remain in the United States. Then, we will tirelessly advocate for your rights before the immigration court.
Typical defenses available in Removal Proceedings are
-
Asylum
-
Adjustment of Status
-
Naturalization
-
Cancellation of Removal
-
Withholding of Removal
-
Other humanitarian protections
-
And/or prosecutorial discretion
